October Updates

October is here and we are gearing up for fall camp! This upcoming weekend is our annual fall camp, and we are very excited for this. We didn't get to do one last year due to COVID so there's two years worth of students who will get to experience this weekend away with their new community for the first time. Please be praying it goes well, this can often be a groundbreaking time where people feel much more connected and included into the family of believers here at Denton FOCUS. Time and time again, we've seen this inclusion into community be the beginning of peoples lives turning towards Jesus and we are praying for more of those stories to come out of this year's camp and the subsequent weeks.

Other than that, these past few weeks have been pretty normal. I'm getting weekly time with the student leaders and getting to know them/mentor them in their faith. 1-1 Bible studies are also well on their way now, as students have started being more committed and consistent to those times. Our weekly worship/sermon/fellowship nights on Thursdays have been going really well. As I mentioned last month, we're in the book of John going week by week through the whole book and that has been really good so far. It feels like a good year is underway and God is already working through the faithfulness of our student leaders, staff, and you our supporters. Thank you for your prayers and support and love, and I'll see you guys next month!

What Will be Happening this Fall?

Hello all, We're two weeks out from what is typically our craziest week of the school year: fall semester welcome week. This is when campuses usually throw big events to welcome the incoming freshman, and welcome back students who have gone away for the summer. Obviously, this is prime time for a ministry to be on campus to be visible and engaging with the new students. So many of the people we have throughout the year come from us meeting them during welcome week. This year, things are going to look different. So as you support campus ministry faithfully, let me tell you what we're going to be doing this year to still be faithful on our end to minister to college students. Outreach: Reaching out and meeting new students is a vital part of our ministry, and because of COVID, the way in which we do that is going to have to look different. Not all of the students that normally attend classes are going to be in person on campus, so we can't expect to rely on holding in person ...

An Amazing Start

Hey all, Here to update you on the first few weeks of Denton FOCUS. It's been a whirlwind, we had two weeks of doing events on campus, lunches with new students, tabling and giveaways, big night events outside on campus playing capture the flag or lawn games. The 6 foot beach ball made multiple appearances :). It's been a really awesome start to the year, and so far the students have been responding really positively. By and large it feels like the ones we are meeting are interested in engaging, many of them wanting to get involved and even the ones who aren't are less hostile than some of our previous years, so that's something we are praising God for!  Our second TNF, last night. We got a bigger room thank goodness, our first week in a slightly smaller room had people lined up along the walls! Our first two Thursday Night Fellowships have seen a bit under 300 students show up, which is awesome! (Fo context, last year our biggest Thursday night was in the low 200'...

The Continuing Work of the Lord

Happy Easter!  Tonight marks our last leader meeting for the school year and this Thursday is our last Thursday Night Fellowship, which will be on the beautiful cliffs of Grapevine Lake. Bittersweet, as it's been an amazing year to celebrate but also the end always means seniors graduating, and sometimes our staff changes. This year Steven, (center top left in pic below) is going to transition off of ours staff to go do mission work in Thailand for a time! God's calling to foreign missions has been something he's felt for a while, so this mission trip marks a step in that direction. Excited to hear about what God does over there but definitely sad to lose a key leader on our staff team. Becca, (center bottom in photo below), will continue in campus ministry at our Richland College campus, so we are keeping her but also losing her. Join me in praying for these young staff as they go out onto the next stage of ministry.  Our Denton Staff Team Our Denton Student Leader Team! T...
