What Will be Happening this Fall?

Hello all,

We're two weeks out from what is typically our craziest week of the school year: fall semester welcome week. This is when campuses usually throw big events to welcome the incoming freshman, and welcome back students who have gone away for the summer. Obviously, this is prime time for a ministry to be on campus to be visible and engaging with the new students. So many of the people we have throughout the year come from us meeting them during welcome week. This year, things are going to look different. So as you support campus ministry faithfully, let me tell you what we're going to be doing this year to still be faithful on our end to minister to college students.

Outreach: Reaching out and meeting new students is a vital part of our ministry, and because of COVID, the way in which we do that is going to have to look different. Not all of the students that normally attend classes are going to be in person on campus, so we can't expect to rely on holding in person campus events that attract students walking by, not to mention the health and safety issues of holding those events. So, we're looking a lot this year towards our student leaders engaging their classmates in their classes in order to meet them, and doing socially distanced conversations on campus with the people who are attending in person to meet them and invite them into community. This is going to be a trying year for outreach I think, but also could be really fruitful. I have little doubt that many of the students we'll interact with in the student's classes or on campus will be experiencing a degree of loneliness and isolation that they wouldn't normally. Pray that this unique time will actually be an opportunity to share Jesus and menaingful relationships with those students! We're also going to be trying to use social media as a way to meet new people.

What are we inviting them into though? What is the ministry actually going to look like?

We're moving to a model of ministry for this time that we think is safe and hopefully still effective. We won't be able to have the 100+ people we normally have every week for worship and teaching. But we will still have our core small groups and our 1-1 discipleship. Cores are going to be smaller sized this year so that people can still meet in person and socially distance and wear masks while doing so. This wouldn't work with a large group, it would be hard to hear each other, but in groups of about 5, they can still engage in reading scripture, discussing their walk with Jesus, and living a Biblical life of accountability. Of course, 1-1 ministry can still work in this model too. Thankfully, our ministry model has always been much more focused on these small groups and 1-1's than the large group, (as important as that is) so we're prayerfully still expecting a fruitful year and God to be working through all of this.

Please pray for this time. Pray for us to be able to find ways to still connect with and bring in new students. Pray for these small groups and 1-1's, that they would be vibrant and life giving and inspiring faithfulness despite the challenges we are dealing with. We've never done this before, so pray for wisdom as our pastoral staff team seeks to lead this new chapter well. We need God's guidance and your prayer and support, so thank you for being a part of this.

Yours on the campus,
Ryan Bristow

Hey all, I'm thankful you're taking the time to read this. I want to give you guys some more peeks into what we've been doing at Collin, and there's a lot that's been happening this month! First, I want to again thank you guys for all your support and prayers. I can't thank you enough for continuing to be a part of God's work on these campuses. I am truly convinced that God is working in the lives of these college students, and that for many of them, this will reshape their life as they go out and live in our society. We still want to bring people to the realization that Jesus is Lord and make fired up disciples who will go out into the world and spread that good news over and over. So thank you again for being a part of that. March was a great month for a lot of reasons. Early on in March, during Collin's spring break, me and a few of the other guys from our FOCUS ministry at Preston Ridge got to drive down to Big Bend National Park. We camped for ...

Welcome to 2025/2026!

Incoming Photo Collage from our 3 week outreach intensive. We made it through another start to the year!! By God's grace haha. It's always a wild, exhausting but rewarding part of this role.  Here's a little bit of the payoff:  If for any reason it won't load, its a video of over 300 college students gathered in a classroom on campus at UNT for our first Thursday Night Fellowship of the year! They're practically shouting their devotion to Jesus! This is awesome stuff, and we're so thankful we get to stay on campus where the students are for our worship and preaching time. Many of the students won't leave campus until they feel more settled, so we've always felt that we can do the most by doing as much as we can on the campus! We're continuing our sermon series on the gospel of Mark, these first two weeks have been covering the call to carry your cross and the story of the Transfiguration. I got to tackle preaching over the Transfiguration passage an...

Next on the List: Summer and a Son

We're back to summer!  Denton FOCUS just finished the end of our Spring 2021 semester, and we went out with a bang after a year that started all spread out into little groups.  Our end of the year Denton FOCUS party We got to do our end of the year party all together! Our small group and 1-1 ministries thrived in the midst of the pandemic but there's nothing like a big group gathering where you can see everyone in the community together and fellowship. We're thankful we at least got to do this at the end of the year. We're also looking forward to this summer. We're doing Summer FOCUS on Thursday nights all together (not just denton but all the campuses across DFW) We're all ready to see everyone back together worshipping and learning at that, so be praying for that to be a good way to build some momentum back up for the fall, and that we stay safe! These are all the student leaders that we had on our small group team this year. So many people! They each co-lead...
